Barred Araucana
Very similar to the Lavender Araucana the Barred sports the lavender colours, light lavender/grey under parts gradually turning darker as the colours go over the wings and across the back, the big exception and one that sets this apart from all other Araucana's is the unusual barring on the cape and saddle hackles and on the wing and tail feathers.
The cape and saddle are barred straw and lavender , whilst the wings and tail feathers are a dark lavender with lighter lavender bars.
as with all Araucanas the hens lay the usual blue coloured eggs, these can be a variety of shades from sky blue through to olive and they make a great talking point at any dinner table.
The hens lay well into the winter months, ours give us an egg for Christmas day, and they can lay up to 150 eggs per year
They do go broody very easily and make fantastic parent birds, the chicks are a smokey grey ball of fluff, but not for long as they grow very rapidly and forage for food very early on in life.
